Footprint Facilities
We operate with the latest design software and computer technology. The workshop houses an advanced digital computer to plate making facility which is coupled to our four colour lithographic Heidelberg press. This ensures we provide clients with the most cost effective, quality print service south of the metropolitan area. This advanced equipment enables us to produce a set of full colour digital printing plates from any clients, or our own in-house art work in less than 4½ minutes. The production room contains two printing presses, both Heidelberg machines from Germany (widely recognised as the benchmark of printing presses in the industry). Our full colour press has all the latest technology and is a recent aquisition. We also operate a cutting/creasing press, a folding machine, stitching machine, laminator and guillotine, making the workshop completely self sufficient in all aspects of print production. We are also able to offer high quality digital printing for quick turnaround short runs on our Xerox Versant 2100 with Plockmatic Pro35 booklet maker Designing your work From initial contact for production of a publication we endeavour to facilitate a meeting to occur (if necessary) by the next working day at the latest. From this meeting we hope to gain a good understanding of the concept of the publication, the market to whom it is directed and the needs of the client. We can then put together a selection of written quotations with regards to various options of paper quality, ink colour options and different quantities to give the client an overall idea of costings in a variety of ways. From there design work can be assessed, again offering consultation at no charge, exploring different imaging options to minimise cost but create maximum effect. Draft and design proofs are completed to the agreed timescale from which the client is free to make reasonable changes to layout or text at no extra cost. We have our own in-house design team with outside associates available for overload or special large projects. Being primarily a printing company rather than a design consultancy our rates are competitive as they can be offset against the total value of the job. We operate both Macintosh and PC platforms utilising the latest versions of the Adobe software suite. |
Quality Management
Footprint is currently obtaining Green Stamp Environmental Accreditation for the print industry and the company runs its own successful in-house quality management system. Each job ordered is allocated a numbered envelope which contains all the client's information, relevant production, art work notes and provision for 'signing-off' throughout the whole printing process. Once the proof is signed by the client for printing, all art work is then proof read by a qualified third person before final printing to ensure no spelling or typographical errors appear. Printing is carried out in accordance with both the Pantone matching System and Process colour bars. Due to our digital plate system we get virtually no dot gain ensuring a perfect job each time. Copies of all jobs are filed for future reference. We run a "pass and pull" machining system whereby the first sample from the press is taken out, quality checked and signed off. A batch counter on all machines then indicates every 500 pass when another sheet is pulled out, checked against the sample and signed off. This gives us continual quality checks throughout the running of each job. Once finished the final counter number is listed on the job ticket and a sample is filed in the job ticket for future reference. Paper is allocated in specific quantities for each job and once printed, supplied quantities are checked against the counter number listed to ensure the correct numbers have been produced. Footprint has a policy of supplying all overs free of charge to the client. "Signing off" throughout the production process ensures there is no delay, error or confusion as to where the job is at any one time and by doing so, should any member of staff be absent, the information contained on the face of the envelope and the documentation within, enables another employee to take over the job immediately and to be fully informed of the job requirements, deadlines and any other implications there might be. Once complete, the job envelope is filed for future reference with details entered on our computer management system. Digital origination is filed on external hard drives for easy access in the future. |
